Brooks, Ellis, and Shep all somehow ended up with field trips within less than a week of each other, and I was miraculously picked to chaperone all three of them!
First up was Brooks’ field trip to Camp Elks in Pottsboro, TX near Lake Texoma (the lake that borders Texas and Oklahoma). The kid and teachers rode on the bus while the chaperones met them there.

The whole 5th grade of Wilmeth Elementary!

Yep, that’s Brooks front and center with his signature pose, lol!

The awesome chaperones!

Some of my mom friends told me their 5th graders asked them not to be chaperones because it was embarrassing. I LOVE that my sweet Brooks is still not embarrassed of me and would never EVER want to hurt my feelings. He seriously has the sweetest and kindest heart!

The field trip was divided into 4 one hour sessions. Our first session we got to do “open play” aka recess…

They had old school tether ball!

Our 2nd session was the “ropes course”

They totally failed at this team building exercise, where they each had a different string attached to the same hook, and were trying to hook it onto this brick laying on the ground.
It was a mess! Way too many cooks in the kitchen, lol. Hopefully they learned the valuable lesson of the importance of listening to each other and working together!

Brooks with his buddy Colin!

Lunchtime! I packed my picky eater a lunch, which he hid it in his lap and pretended to eat the food they served him, haha.

Our 3rd session was Archery!

Fun fact- Brooks is right handed, but he does most sports things left handed. He throws right handed, but bats and plays golf left handed…

All the boys in Mr. Carrol’s 5th grade class!

He snuck his wrestlers in his back pack for the long bus ride..

The 4th and final session was Science survival skills…

They learned about poisonous plants and food and how to decipher them, and what to do if lost in the woods. Which is where learning how to start a fire using flint and a cotton ball (you know two things you should always keep in your survival pack) came to be…

Almost there, Brooks…

Woohoo, he did it, and then quickly smothered it by being a little too eager…
Such a fun and informative day with my big 5th grader! I’m so glad I get to be there for things like this, and LOVE that he wants me there too!

After the field trip we had “Friday Night Lights” at the McKinney North High School football game for their Wilmeth elementary spirit night! This was the kids very first high school football game ever! We’ve never been able to go to this spirit night in the past, because we’ve always had a baseball game or something else going on that night. The kids LOVED it and had an absolute blast!

They even got to go on the field!

I spy Brooks in the back row…

Ellis near the Bulldogs tooth…

And shep near the middle holding an orange towel!

They really know how to do high school football right in Texas!!!!
Fun moms on the field getting the perfect pics!

I remember loving going to the high school football games when I was a kid, and seeing all of my friends!

The lights were so bright Daddy thought it was still sunny out, lol…

Shep thought he was famous after making it onto the big screen!

Such a fun night! Hoping we’ll get to do it a lot more often next season!

That same weekend two of Ellis little friends, Lydia and Maddy, performed in a showcase with their cheerleading squad and invited her and Grace to watch. The sweet girl in Ellis’ lap is Maddy’s little sister!

Maddy did such a good job!

Teeny tiny little Lydia was adorable too!
Cutest little cheerleaders I ever did see!

Next up, was Shep’s field trip to a small non profit 5 acre farm called McKinney Roots!

All of 2nd grade at Wilmeth. Elementary!

All of the produce from the farm is donated to local charities and is run by only 3 employees and hundreds (including these 2nd graders) of volunteers!

Getting his volunteer hours in by feeding the chickens!

His best buddy from class, JJ!

Shep also got to help collect eggs from the chicken coup!

Then he got to help pick the weeds and leftover peppers from the crop fields. Poor buddy thought he was going to die after he got the seed juice from one of the peppers on his fingers and then rubbed his eye. He was trying to save the seed in his pocket to plant in our back yard later. Thank goodness Mommy was there to flush out his eye with water!

Next he got to learn how to plant lettuce inside of a green house!

The “three musketeers” eating lunch together!

Shep and his buddy Ben, who he says is his nicest and happiest friend!

Learning all about tractors and other farm equipment!

Love my sweet and goofy Sheppy, who’s only 8 and almost as tall as me!

Mrs. Maughan’s 2nd grade class!

Last up, was Ellis’ field trip to the Dallas Museum of Art. As you can see, Ellis was not too happy in the beginning, lol. It was cold and rainy and she fell in a water puddle before coming into the museum. Thankfully she got over it pretty quickly and enjoyed the rest of her field trip! I have to point out that coming on this field trip and riding the bus was HUGE for Ellis. It wasn’t too long ago that her anxiety kept her from going on her second grade field trip, and I’m just so dang proud of her!

I love that these kiddos are learning and being cultured, but art and museums are just so not my jam. I’d much rather be at a camp outside near the lake or on a farm!

The sweet girls I was in charge of chaperoning!

Why are my children always the ones that end up doing this pose??

Mrs. Cottone’s 4th grade class at Wilmeth Elementary!

Poor thing was forced to take this pic with her momma. Oh gosh please don’t let her be the 5th grader that’s too embarrassed to have her mom chaperone next year. (crossing my fingers)….

I will end with this sweet pic of my awesome Dad, aka Papa Joe, who also happens to be just a tad vane, lol. He was so embarrassed about his hair in the hospital. I mean, of all the things to be worried about, lol. That’s Papa Joe for you though!

Awe, that’s much better! In all seriousness though, I’m so thankful he’s okay and my mom was there to call the ambulance. Praising God for modern medicine and the invention of the pacemaker! This goofball has way too many more jokes to tell to make his grandkids laugh and the rest of us roll our eyes!
